6.What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

For my product, i had to learn how to use several programs and pieces of equipment to increase my understanding of the music magazine industry and help me develop and improve my product.
1)

Blogger, is an internet blogging site in which people can create blogs, share pictures and other different types of media across the internet. Personally, i had no knowledge of bloggers exsistence, however i was aware that many sites exsisted on the internet that catered for blogging. Blogger is a simple and easy to use website that was very helpful in compiling my coursework together in one place so that i could add bits to my coursework whenever i could. Overall i would say that learning to use Blogger has helped me develop my product and keep me informed as to what i needed to do next.

2)

Adobe Photoshop is an image editing and compilation program that is available for download from Adobe's website. It is a specialist tool that many companies use for image manipulation.
Photoshop was useful for me to create many interesting effects on some of the images that i took, effects such as black and white, negative and colour change helped me emphasise and bring out a message from my images. Overall Photoshop was quite difficult to use, but i eventually got the hang of it. However i could only download the trial version which lasted 30 days, this meant that Photoshop contributed to only a small piece of my coursework.

3)

Microsoft Paint is a standard program that comes with every Microsoft computer, it is a basic image compiler with verious tools and functions to create various images.
Paint was very helpful in making my music magazine, although i never used paint for anything other than a segway between images from my phone or the internet, its trim function was very helpful in downsizing images. Overall Paint was a useful addition to my coursework, yet it was a technology that lacks too many functions to be considered a major part of my music magazine.

4)

Microsoft Publisher is a program that can be purchased from Microsoft on its own or as part of Microsoft office. Its main functions include an image compiler and providing templates for magazines, letters and worksheets. Publisher was very helpful in my coursework, as i used it as the main tool for creating my magazine and compiling the images that were needed.

5)
The Sony Ericsson W995 was the camera that i used to take pictures for my magazine. The camera on this phone is 8.1 megapixels and was very useful in giving me a clear shot, and a wide range of effects that i could use to enhance my images. Overall my phone was instrumental in my media project.

5.How did you attract/address your audience?

I attracted my audience in three ways:
  • Offered an incentive to buy the magazine: Free Posters and an i-tunes voucher.
  • Made my magazine stand out from the rest by making my magazine look totally different to other competitors.
  • Offer articles and features that are exclusive to my magazine and appeal to my audience.
I adressed my audience in three ways:
  • Made the articles informative but relaxed, meaning that the reader can just pick up and read the magazine rather than spend time having to get into the article
  • Steered away from patronising my readers as many magazines feel the need to make the writing easier for certain social groups.
  • Give important information that will affect their interests and help answer any questions that they have.

4.Who would be the audience for your media product?

For my media product, i have identified the audience as 16-24 year olds, this is because this is the audience that is most associated with mainstream music and culture.
I also chose the audience of 16-24 year olds as it is a culture that i am member of, therefore it is easier for me to create material that is appropriate to my age group and i can facilitate and meet the demands of my age group.
To represent the needs of my target audience, i have made the magazine both easy to use and a relaxing read. I felt this was important as teenagers have a very diverse lifestyle, so it is important that they can have a magazine where they can just open and dive in straight away.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

In the media market, there are many music magazines aimed at a variety of different people, however very few of these music magazines target the most important social group, teenagers and none represent all the different musical interests that this group has. This is why i decided to call my magazine pop rock and aim it at 16-24 year olds. The clue to my magazines diversity is in its name pop rock. Modern day mainstream music covers rap, pop and rock. All of which have been included in my magazine, this means that i am filling a gap in the market that has profit potential. Therefore it makes sense to a media institutuion to publish and distribute my magazine.

Music Magazine Final Draft: Double Page Spread

For my double page spread, i decided to follow in the footsteps of NME and have a few pictures covering a fairly small article. The article that i used was in the form of an interview, i did this because an interview is straight and to the point, whereas an article is more longwinded and aimed at giving as much information as possible. Another reason for making the article an interview, is that most people (as found in my research), tend to look at the pictures rather than the actual article itself. By using an interview i can give the audience a cool looking page whilst still informing them with the interview.
